Role purpose:
The Tax Manager is responsible for a team of individuals to ensure Jersey and UK tax deadlines are met and compliance work is dealt with in a timely manner. They will be working closely with the Tax Director to help with advisory work and to provide training sessions to clients on the latest UK and Jersey tax updates.
The Tax Manager must have the ability to provide guidance and develop their team to enable the team to grow and develop successfully. They must have excellent knowledge and experience in Jersey and UK tax for individuals, trusts and companies. This includes the distribution rules for Jersey companies, Jersey tax for trusts and individuals, value-added tax, non-resident landlords, trust and estate income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and annual tax on enveloped dwellings. The Tax Manager is expected to oversee and manage WIP, debtors and billing for the team on a regular basis.
Core responsibilities:
Managing the processes around client take-on, data collection/information gathering, tax computation and tax return preparation and submissions, billing, business development and growth opportunities, and may include some or all of the following functions:
- Improve processes by developing and implementing best practices, policies and procedures.
- Manage WIP, debtors and billing for the tax team.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks.
- Build relationships and interact with clients to provide a high-level service and grow the business.
- Assist the Tax Director in delivering a full range of tax services in compliance with laws and regulations within the timeframe.
- Manage tax provision and tax compliance, reporting and filing.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all personal, corporate and trust tax returns.
- Coordinate with tax and accounting staff.
- Liaise with third-party professionals including solicitors, other accountants, tax advisors and local intermediaries.
- Assists with providing internal tax advisory services and support to the business.
- Train and mentor staff.
- Positively participate in one-to-ones and appraisals.
- Ensure that all relevant policies, procedures and working practices are adhered to at all times.
- Work in accordance with our culture, values, aims and objectives.
- Act as a positive ambassador for Bracken Rothwell Limited at all times when dealing with clients or representing the business.
- Positively contributes to the team working environment, taking ownership of issues and supporting colleagues where appropriate.
Technical / Professional / Qualification Requirements:
- CTA qualification;
- At least 5+ years’ experience in UK and Jersey tax;
- Strong accounting and analytical skills
- Strong computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database systems;
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
- Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
- UK tax experience in the offshore market
- Experience in Jersey tax for individuals, companies and trusts
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Management Training undertaken; and
- People Management skills and experience
